AFAC15 and EMSINA

The EMSINA Group will once again be in attendance at the AFAC15 Conference in Adelaide. EMSINA will have a large Booth where members from all around Australia will be showcasing new and exciting spatial technologies, including their own incident systems. EMSINA is also presenting a Professional Development Session on Friday. These sessions will highlight some of the great spatially related projects and technologies being used across Australia. For more information about the Booth or PDP items click here [EMSINA Booth Details] or here [EMSINA PDP Session Details].

For the first time during an AFAC Conference EMSINA will have dedicated social media officers. These two officers role is to keep you up-to-date on the Group's activities 'live' via the EMSINA website and integrated social media; including activity reminders, presentations, interviews and some cool interactive online competitions open to all.

If you are attending AFAC and wish to get involved with the EMSINA activities please drop by the Booth.

EMSINA and the successful NEMP Bids

The EMSINA Group and its valued members have been instrumental in assisting Geoscience Australia successfully apply for 2 National Emergency Management Project's worth approximately half a million dollars.

The first project will see a National Spatial Aggregation Tool built. This tool will take all the jurisdictional bushfire feeds and aggregate them into one nationally consistent webfeed available back to all participants. This capability will then open up significant automation possibilities including a Project already under development in the National Crisis Coordination Centre. This Project will also have allocations toward improving:

  • Bom webfeeds: Tsunami Coastal Zones, Volcanic Ash Clouds,
  • CAP-AU Feeds: The jurisdictions, where applicable will be allocated money to upgrade their bushfire feed to CAP-AU compliant.

The second Project is utilising the Japanese satellite Himawari-8 images to detect National bushfire activity every 10 minutes. These hotspots will increase the detection from "four times a day to 144 times a day".

You can read more about each of the Projects by clicking here

Gallipoli Map - 100 years on

"A treasure-trove of original World War I documents handwritten by a soldier who served in Gallipoli has been found, stolen, and then returned, in an eventful few months in the central Queensland town of Emerald."

"The documents belonged to licensed surveyor Private James Nicholas Murray, who produced what were thought to be the most detailed maps to date of Russell's Top, a lesser-known but strategically critical line of defence in the eight-month long battle."

A fantastic read. View the whole article...click here
